More Art Prize Grand Rapids, Michigan

So I finally made it downtown Grand Rapids for some bits and pieces of art, installations, sculptures, etc... it was a feast for the eyes. Although, very overwhelming I found it to be very interesting. I love repetition and color so this one caught my eye. This work is done by Jason Hackenwerth, and a talented artist at that. This soft sculpture was made of yes - balloons. It had this very organic, yet structural element to it. It kind of reminded me of biology class or perhaps my daughters medical school reference books. It also seems to depict this sea life influence as well. Packed with color and rythmn it was one not to miss. I think he is a very talented artist and look forward to see where he places in Art Prize. Painting of Tall Pines from a Distance

This is my lastest large scale painting of tall pines, it's mixed media including paper, oil and genuine copper leafing on a wood panel. The size is 40 x 48" and it is currently for sale. The title of this pretty piece is On The Hill. As a chickelala I try to constantly stay busy, my mind is forever busy. I think, live and breathe art. What an exhistance huh? I love it and love my journey. I am so busy because the chickelalas are having an art show in December, just in time for christmas. As we near December I will post some of the wonderful pieces we have been creating. I did get a chance to go downtown Grand Rapids, Mi. this weekend to get a first hand look at Art Prize. So much wonderful art to see in a smaller city. I will post pics tomorrow. Art Prize - Grand Rapids, Michigan

So my architect friend Steve Fry had this amazing idea, which most recently came to fruition. From the moment he heard about Art Prize, one thing lead to another and before he knew it, he was in it. This concept took alot of lumber and steel not to mention man power and machinery just to get it in place. It is placed on top of one of Grand Rapids historic downtown bridges. One needs to actually visualize it to appreciate the work involved. I am proud to say I was a stand in artist just in case he needed extra hands. He and his amazing team were on target, and they nailed it!!! ( pun intended ) Check out the website for all of the fun facts about this amazing architect and contest.
